Caring Hearts Card Drive

This post is a little different, as it's not a card share... it's about how this awesome community of cardmakers was able to come together to put smiles on the faces of some of those who live in nursing homes.  A very big shout out goes to Vera Yates and Jennifer McGuire, who put together the Caring Hearts Card Drive.   It's such an awesome thing to see people smile when they receive a beautiful handmade card!

When I found out about the Caring Hearts Card Drive in 2013 and that they were looking for volunteers to bring the cards to local nursing homes, I was happy to volunteer, as my grandmother had just moved into a nursing home.  All the residents were so excited to receive the cards and talk about who had sent them and what state (or country!) the cards had come from.    Sadly, my grandmother passed away in June 2014,  but by the time November 2014 rolled around, both of my OTHER grandparents had moved into an assisted living facility.   So I volunteered again - and again, it was such a positive experience!  So of course I volunteered again in 2015.    But this year was different.    My grandfather passed away in June of this year, and just a day before Thanksgiving, we lost my grandmother as well.

I had committed to bringing the cards, but let me tell you - it was so strange to walk in and know that none of my family was there.   Almost surreal, in fact!   But my mother and I handed out some of the cards, and it was wonderful to hear everyone talking about how amazing the cards were, and what a lovely gesture it was for everyone to send them.   It certainly put a big smile on my face!

For those who sent in cards, thank you!    And to those who sponsored the card drive with prizes, thank you as well!   And a BIG thank you to Jennifer and Vera - your amazing vision and dedication makes the holidays brighter for so many people.   I've witnessed it....and it's a beautiful thing!

Holiday Coffee Lovers Blog Hop!

Yay!   I was able to finish a card so I can participate in the AWESOME Holiday/Winter Coffee Lovers Bloghop!    It's getting crazy around this place....so much holiday stuff to get done before next week!    And what's up with this 'no snow' thing?   I live in Syracuse, NY, one of the snowiest cities in the U.S.,  and we've had 60 degree weather and not a bit of the white stuff yet.    I'm so sad!   It makes it hard to get in the Christmas spirit!  Sorry for the ramblings....I was able to find some time to craft this rainy day and here's what I came up with!
coffee lovers bloghop | tea | handmade card | kimpletekreativity.blogspot.com
I have had this PTI tea set in my stash for ages and finally got a chance to use it!   I started by stamping the leaves from the PTI Turning a New Leaf stamp set in Hero Arts Soft Brown .   I added some berries with Memento Galaxy Gold ink.    I stamped and die cut the cute tea pot with the leaves (that almost match the other leaves!)  I used my brand new Altenew inks - I love how they stamp!   I added some gold accents and some red gems (it is almost Christmas!).   Sorry for the poor pictures - this darn rain is making it impossible to get a good shot!

Cold Twigs, Warm Hearts!

Hello!   I'm on the Newton's Nook Designs blog today with a cute winter card using the Fox Hollow and Frozen Friends stamp sets.

Newton's Nook Designs | snowman | fox | handmade card | kimpletekreativity.blogspot.com
This card came together fast - I thought it would be adorable to make it look like the fox was building the snowman, so I placed one of the twig arms in his mouth!   I used a snow marker to make the snow look dimensional and added some sequins to the falling snow.  I added some texture to the fox with my Copic colorless blender.  The little banner is from the Sunny Studio Stamps Fishtail Banner die set.   Love this!   It makes creating any size banner (and decorative no less!) easy!

Hope you've enjoyed my card today!  I'll be back later in the week with a fun video tutorial!

Deck the Halls with Inky Paws Blog Hop!

Well hello, friends!   Can you believe it is December!   So much to do to get ready for the holidays - I've been making Christmas cards left & right!    Today I'm celebrating the holiday season with Newton's Nook Designs' Deck the Halls with Inky Paws Blog Hop!    And surprise!  There's a fantastic new stamp set available today called Whispering Pines.   I used it to create my card!
Let it Snow | #handmadecard | Newton's Nook Designs | Kimpletekreativity.blogspot.com
I masked the snow hill and created the night sky with Distress Inks.   I stamped the trees with Versafine Black ink twice using my Misti tool.   I love that this stamp set can be used the way i used it here - in a more solid application, or it can be used to create a much softer, watercolor feel!  And how about the adorable dog and cat!   Oh my, they are my favorite!   I placed them together, looking off at the trees with the snow falling all around them.   I used a Tsukineko Irresistible Pico Embellisher for the snow, and added red, green & clear rhinestones to a single tree. The perfect finishing touch for this card was a snowflake embossed front panel.

I hope you have fun hopping around and checking out all the inky inspiration!   There are fabulous guests hopping along with the NND team - make sure you check out all of the stops along the hop!

Bundled Up Birthday!

* For my Inky Paws Challenge card, click HERE*

Hello there! We made it to Friday! Do I hear a big sigh of relief? Yep....me too! Today I am sharing a card made with an adorable set called Bundled Up from the new-to-me company Sunny Studio Stamps. I cannot believe I didn't use the cute penguin included in the set, but hey....there's always next time!
Bundled Up by Sunny Studio | kimpletekreativity.blogspot.com | handmade card | winter | papercrafts
To create this card, I black heat embossed all the winter gear and then colored them in with Copics.   I added some snowflakes to fill in the gaps and embossed them with sparkle embossing powder.   It's so hard to capture the shine in a photograph!     I also added some dots with a Pico embellisher.   I love how this turned out!   So happy and colorful for a winter birthday!

Newton's Nook Designs Inky Paws Challenge #27 - Kraft & Sparkle

Hi friends!    Today marks the start of the latest Inky Paws Challenge over at Newton's Nook Designs.   I hope you'll take part!

New Year's card | handmade card | Newton's Nook Designs | kimpletekreativity.blogspot.com
I thought the combination of gold & kraft paper would make an amazing New Year's card, and the combination of the new Simply Seasonal stamp set and the old favorite Years of Cheers stamp set was the perfect match-up!  I embossed the numbers count-down style along the left edge, and added separation with strips of thin washi tape.   The champagne flutes were colored in with a gold Wink of Stella glitter pen and I used Glossy Accents to highlight the bubbles.   A little gray Copic coloring along the edges grounded the flutes just enough.

Make sure to stop by the Newton's Nook blog to find out how to enter the challenge - you could win a gift card to their online store!   Can't wait to see what you create!

25 Days of Christmas Tags with Newton's Nook!

Well hello there, crafty friends!   Today I'm participating in Tracey McNeely's 25 Days of Christmas Tags.   Check it out - it's a great source of inspiration!  Newton's Nook Designs is being featured today, so some of the DT and I have created some tags for you!  Here is the cute tag I created using the Frozen Friends stamp set.
25 Days of Christmas Tags | Newton's Nook | kimpletekreativity.blogspot.com | snowman
I created the background by masking off a portion of the tag and blending Distress Inks to create a night sky and then created the snowflakes using a stencil and embossing paste.    The trees were die cut using the Fox Hollow die set - I just trimmed off the trunks.   The front tree was popped up with foam adhesive for a bit of dimension. The sweet little snowman couple was colored with Copics and fussy cut.  The 'To/From" sentiment is from the brand new Jolly Tags stamp set.

I hope you have fun checking out all the amazing tags created by the DT and Tracey!   You can find all the details of the 25 Days of Christmas Tags here, as well as how you can enter to win some amazing prizes!

Newton's Nook Designs November Release - Jolly Tags!

Hello & Happy Veteran's Day, friends!  First off, a huge thank you to those who have served and are serving our country.   I couldn't be more proud and thankful for your service!

Newton's Nook Designs has two brand new stamp sets releasing this month, and today we are showing off the awesome new "Jolly Tags" stamps and coordinating dies!  I don't know about you, but I love to make handmade tags for the holidays.   It's something I've done for the last several years - it's a great (and FAST) way to use all those awesome holiday stamps that you just "haven't had time" to use on a card yet!   I think it's something about the tiny size that makes it less intimidating, lol!
Handmade Christmas tags | Kimpletekreativity.blogspot.com | Newton's NookI decided to make a bunch of tags to have on hand and to keep them all together, I added them to a book ring and tied them with a cute gingham ribbon.   Now they are less likely to get lost in my Christmas wrapping frenzy, and I can easily add more tags as I make them, and easily get them off to use them!   The die is awesome since it adds the hole at the top as well as cutting out the basic shape!
And since we are all short on time at the holidays, I thought rather than coloring each and every tag, heat embossing some in gold still makes for a nice and elegant handmade tag!

Make sure to stop back tomorrow to see the next amazing stamp set reveal from NND!  And a crafty video from yours truly!   My first one ever....so go easy on me!  Ha!

Give Thanks

Autumn wreath card | handmade card | papercrafts | Newton's Nook | kimpletekreativity.blogspot.com
Good morning crafty friends!  Today I have another Autumn themed card for you - can you tell it's my favorite season?!?  I used one of my favorite Newton's Nook Designs stamp sets, Falling Into Autumn.   I used just one of the leaves to create a wreath - I simply traced a circle die lightly onto my card base and stamped around the circle (making sure to erase the pencil line when I was done).  I stamped with Distress Inks and added some shading with the coordinating Distress Markers. The gorgeous sentiment was stamped in the center of the wreath with gold embossing powder and I added some little "berries" with a Gold Wink of Stella glitter pen and then covered them with Glossy Accents for added shine & dimension.   A tiny bow in the corner of the wreath was the finishing touch!

Thanks for stopping by today!  I've been updating my blog and have added some items to the For Sale tab at the top of the page if you'd like to take a look.   And I'd love it if you'd subscribe to my blog and follow me on Instagram! Have a great day!

Beautiful Butterflies

Hello again!   Today I'm sharing a card using Honeybee Stamps.   Haven't heard of them yet?  You should check them out!   Seriously cute stuff!
honeybee stamps | kimpletekreativity.blogspot.com | handmade card | butterflies
I wanted to create a kind of "Zentangle" background with the pretty butterflies and swirls, so I stamped them with MFT Hybrid ink in Black Licorice.   I blended the background using Distress Inks and a new-to-me product recommended by Mendi Yoshikawa - Tsukineko Jumbo Ink Daubers.   They were a lot easier to use (for me) than the Ranger ink tools.   I'm sold!!  I'll need to get daubers for all the Distress colors.   I mounted the butterfly panel on black cardstock and placed it near the top of my card base.
honeybee stamps | kimpletekreativity.blogspot.com | handmade card | butterflies

I stamped the sentiment towards the bottom and for added interest, I used my Scan-n-Cut machine to cut out five of the butterfly images.   I glued them to each other only at the center so that the wings can fluff up for added dimension.   A bit of Wink of Stella glitter on the butterfly was the finishing touch.

Thanks for stopping by, friends!   I'd love it if you take a minute to subscribe to my blog and/or follow me on Instagram or Facebook!

Newton's Nook Designs October Release - Fox Hollow!

Welcome back, NND friends!   Today the team is showing off the adorable new set "Fox Hollow"and it's matching dies.   I adore this set!   Foxes are one of my favorite animals - I was super excited when Jen showed us this stamp set!
Newton's Nook Designs | Fox Hollow | handmade card | kimpletekreativity.blogspot.com | watercolor
I created my background using blue and purple Zig markers on watercolor paper.   I stamped the trees using Distress Ink in Evergreen Bough and then colored them with the same color ink - I love that sort of "no line" look that gave them!   I added some snowy hills with Stickles and embossed some of the snowflakes in the set with white embossing powder.   My little fox friend was stamped with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and watercolored with the same (I just wiped the ink off the scarf area before I stamped.).   The scarf was colored with Zig markers.   I popped Mr. Fox up on foam adhesive.  Isn't he cute looking up at the falling snow?

Tomorrow all the sets showcased this week will be available for purchase at Newton's Nook Designs!  Which is YOUR favorite?
